Burning Of The White House

August 24, 1814 : During the War of 1812, British forces invaded Washington, D.C. and set fire to several public buildings, including the White House and the Capitol building. This event, known as the Burning of Washington, occurred after the British victory at the Battle of Bladensburg. The fires were later extinguished by a heavy rainstorm.
